TaKiBo comprises three rooms. "Practical life"
 and
the sensorial material are in one room. Mathematics, writing,
botany and geography are in another. In the third room we come
together as a group for "circle" and
engage in free play (cooking, dressing up, etc.). Each individual
area, supported by specific materials, focuses on one aspect of learning.
In addition to individual work, it is important for children
to participate in group activities. In our "circle"
we sing
and dance, tell stories, talk about a specific subject and get
to know new material or handicrafts. During the group period,
the children are requested to come together. They do not have
to take part actively, but they should be present. All
children must learn to be a part of the group, to sit quietly
for a few minutes and listen to others.
The daily timetable
is variable and adapts according to the activities planned, the
number of children present, the needs of the children, and of
course, the weather. Afternoons
are somewhat more relaxed, since most of the children were present
during the morning. Weather permitting, afternoons are usually spent enjoying outdoor activities and play.
Lunchtime is very relaxing
and a great success! The children are not required
to eat everything on their plates, but are encouraged to try what
has been served. They are asked to remain
seated until everyone has finished eating. When lunch is finished the childrend tidy up their places and get ready for quiet time.
In the quiet period, each child should remain on his/her mat
quietly. Our
experience is that children need a quiet period in which they
can be with themselves. This period is important for relaxation
and for a good start to the afternoon.
